    If function

Hi. I want to make column B = "true" if the value in A2 = A1.
I tried this formula in column b = IF(A2=A1,"TRUE","FALSE") but nothing happens. I will have to copy the formual doen for al 18K rows. Any suggestions

    Example
    A b
    1 CRC.S.V.R.SCHSFRN, NC
    2 CRC.S.V.R.SCHSFRN, NC
    3 CRFLPMCKNS
    4 CRFLPMCKNS

    Thanks in Advance

If you're looking for a way to copy the formula down :
    select the cell containing it
double-click the handle at the right lower corner of the selection
ormula will extend as long as there is something in the cells to the left
( and starting with 2003 to the right)

    If function

The function doesn;t seem to work. When I Copy if doem it repeats the same cell reference and the resulting value for the B cells is the formula itself.

BTW I'm a relative new user to Excel

Remove the " " around TRUE & FALSE

    =IF(A1=A2,TRUE,FALSE)

or may be this would be better?

    =IF(A1=A2,TRUE,"") easier to see?

You have got your column B formatted as TEXT, that's why the formula is showing.

The easiest way to change it back is to select a cell over to the far right of your sheet, click the Paintbrush icon, then click column B at the top of the column.
