    recursive formulas and 'next cell'

    Hi,

    I'm a beginner in Excel.

    I had assumed that there would be some way I could create a recursive formula that moved onto the next cell in a range until a certain criterion has been fulfilled. Cells would be created until the output value reached '0' for example. Is the only way I can do this is by creating more rows than I could ever possibly need and copying the formula for each row?

    Without any other details of what you're trying to accomplish, the answer is "Yes." Please provide some details of the formulas you're using and what you're trying to do with them.

    Better yet, upload a copy of your spreadsheet to the forum with notes and expected results and we can probably resolve your problem in a number of different ways.

    Hi,

    I'm right at the beginning, and just need a hook (some key fuction names). I'll explain a little further though.

    I have a number that will reduced by a percentage at regular intervals.

    B1 =A1*0.9
    B2 =B1*0.9
    B3 =B2*0.9

    And so on.

    I am well aware that there would be no end to the above: the value will be rounded to the nearest integer, and when that is '0', the function will stop. The problem I have is that can see no way that new rows/cells can be created according to to how many times the function must operate to bring the output down to a certain level. The cell being referenced is constantly changing, but will remain in the same relative postion to the new cell.

    The above is just illustrative; what I need is much more complicated. Once I have a handle on this, I'll be able to start putting together proper functions and ask more specifc questions.

    Thanks.
