    inserting tick marks/hash marks

    Is there a way that I can format my cell to show tick marks when I type a number into the cell. When I type in a 4 it displays llll and so on.

    Thanks. That worked well. Though - is there a way to have a strikethrough so to speak when a multiple of 5 is entered. My main reasoning would be to be able to count the tick marks easily if say the number 100 was entered.

    Why would you want to sit down and count 100 ticks. Surely displaying the number is better in that case

    Well I would definitely agree with that but it is very hard for some people to accept change. Our current method of doing our tallies is writing a tick mark on a form everytime we have a contact. I obviously want it electronically but was trying to keep it in the same tick mark format to not raise to much chaos.

    If they type 100 it will give you a 100 tick marks so no need to count or group.

    May I suggest you type 100 in Col A and the visible ticks appear in Col B. Mix of old and new
