    Breaking password protection

I somehow messed up my password for a personal file and now I cannot get back into the file. I've read somewhere that you can get around the password in a protected file. Does anybody know how to do that so I can save myself a ton of time? Thanks!

Discussions about breaking passwords is not permitted in the forum. You can certainly use Google to find ways to get back into your workbook, though.

    It is permitted.

Are you referring to the password to open a workbook? If so, then you may have to buy the software to do this. There is a free one available here, which works fine but works by brute force so can be slow, but it can be good if you've got a vague idea of what the password was.

Otherwise see here for a few suggestions :

A Google search will turn up plenty of others.
