In a forumula what does " " mean

Hello I'm trying to track a calculation...in terms of what it means...
can someone tell me what it means specifically " " then ""

    eg =IF($AK5=" ","",SUM($AK5$A15))

Obviously I know what cell refs means here...
note space between first " "
and no space between "" second one.

    Your help would be appreciated...
    Thanks

    Hi ghadir14,

Please Login or Register to view this content.
It means that if cell A5 = [blank], if TRUE the result would be [blank], if FALSE the result would sum range A5 to A15.

    ghadir14,

"" is the same as blank in excel so your formula says

    if cell AK5 is blank

    e.g
    $AK5=" "
    then

    if true return blank
    ""
else if false sum the range

    SUM($AK5$A15)

    combined it gives you
    =IF($AK5=" ","",SUM($AK5$A15))
Link should help on if statements
