Problem saving files (already in use)

This morning we started having problems with an Excel file. It can be opened and edited, but when we go to save it it says the file is already in use and to try again later. I know for a fact no one is opening the file, so no physical user here is opening the file. Is it possible the file is being tagged by Windows or Excel as already being opened and not alowing me to save the file even though the only session using the file is me? This is Excel 2007, any help is appreciated!!

Excel can experience a problem that causes it to freeze or exit improperly, leaving one or more Processes called EXCEL still operating and connected to the workbook(s) that were in use. This will cause other startups of Excel to think that another user has these workbooks open.

In this case, close all running EXCEL windows, then use Ctl-Alt-Delete to open the Task Manager and manually select and End Process for each remaining EXCEL process that you see under Processes.

Thank you for the reply, unfortunately it didn't work as I didn't see any other instances of Excel or now even Word opened. It seems as though I can open a file and save a change, but after I've changed the save it then states it's being used in another session. Any ideas?

Well this morning I put a problematic spreadsheet on my desktop from it's shared folder. I edited the file and saved without insident. It seems this is a shared folder issue. For the folder I have Me, Administrator and Folder Operators with full rights. Under security I have Administrator CREATOR OWNER, Me, SYSTEM and Users all set to full rights. When I say Me I man my personal domain account. After doing all that still same error. Now I'm going to take 2007 off and put Office XP on and see if I get the same errors.
