    Data Validation from different worksheet

    Greetings,

Admins if this question is in the wrong forum please move, Thank you.

My problem is the correct syntax for setting up a drop down menu from a list of item on another work sheet. I'm using Excel 2003.

I know that to call the source on another worksheet you use the ="name of work sheet" in the source field before the range of cells, this is where i run into trouble e.g. =DataSet?$A$118:$A$149. The question mark is my problem, what is the correct syntax? Ive tried ! and get the error 'You may not use references to other worksheets or workbooks for Data validation criteria'.
    Ive also tried ", . - ; + "
    Your assistance is appreciated.

    Welcome to the board,
XL does not allow data validation with ranges on other sheets
But ther is a workaround using Named ranges.
Have a look at Chip Pearson's site
