    Pivot Table List refreshing problem

I have a list of names that I am using to sort a pivot table. (left hand vertical column). When I hit the little drop-down and start unchecking names I realized that the list is really long. I went to the original data and moved a bunch of names to a differnt column and replaced them with "Old". Since they don't apply but I don't want to delete the data.

Problem: they are still appearing in check/uncheck drop down on the pivot table. This is after I refreshed the table and saved the sheets, etc.

How can I get that list to refresh so it only shows what is currenlty in the name column? I searched that column to be sure.

    Thanks for the help.

    Pivot Table List refreshing problem

Debra Dalgleish explains how to clear obsolete items from the list:

    Does that help?

    Hi,

    I'm using xl 2007.

Try checking the table/range of the pivot table by selecting the Pivot table and clicking Change Data Source -> it shows you the data source and the range (data are enclosed with a running dash line ) if those data are in the range it will still be included in the Pivot table, try selecting the data you only want to analyze and to be shown in the Pivot table.

Don't forget to hit the refreshed button.

    Hope this helps.

It worked for two of the tables but not the third. They are all very similar, same data. I have just been checking everything and can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks for your help, I am sure it will become apparent to me after some more playing around.

    Still not fixed

This worked several tables but not for others. For the others, I go it to show me the shortened list when name field was in the filter part of the table (all the way up top) but when I dropped that field back onto the left I had a million choices again.

    Any thoughts?

Hmmmm....perhaps perform whichever technique worked for you....then Save - Close - Reopen

    Does that help?
