Scanning barcodes into Excel

I work for a freight logistics company that ships for Motorola. We are needing to scan in serial numbers and tracking numbers from the frieght when it hits our dock. We have been scanning the numbers into Excel 2003, but it only enters the data down the selected column.

I'm working in VBA to sort all of the numbers once they're entered, but am having troubles finding code to recognize the number of digits. There are 8 different sets of numbers that need to be sorted.

Any advice/ideas would be very helpful.

the LEN function returns the number of characters.
