    Color palette gone crazy !

    Dear All,

My color palette is having a problem for each colored font in red i have is turning to grey after restarting excel , despite the fact that i am changing from tools>options>color>clicking on the grey and modifying to red and the clicking apply , eventhough when i restart excel it turns to grey again !Also the dark blue is turning to grey and vice versa.

Any one knows why this is happening and how to solve it?

    Thank you much .

It sounds like you somehow have managed to do do some changes to your color pallette and then saved this with your default workbook. You can customize excel with many options to make the workbooks look like you want. If you want these options to apply to all workbooks you create you can save it to a template called book.xlt and save it in the \XLStart folder. the placement of this folder will vary on different operating systems.

Search for XLStart on your harddrive and let me know what you find in this folder.

check: Tools -> Options -> General.

This have an option called: "At startup open all files in:".
Do you have an entry in this field ?

It can be an add-in, but try this:
Open Excel with a blank workbook.
Edit your colour pallette, so it is back to normal.
Save this workbook as a template in the XLStartup folder. Name the file book.xlt (not book1.xlt).
Restart excel, and check your colour pallette now (before you open any files).

It seems that things came to the normal before saving this template ? i will try it whenever Excel will change colors in the palette again in order to see if it works and shall revert.

    Many thanks to you !

It could be one of your workbooks that cointains this pallette changes. If you opens a workbook with pallette changes it will affect all the other workbooks you open or create until you restart Excel.

There is an option for copying colour palette from one workbook to another, but for this to work you must have a workbook that has been saved with a custom palette. This means you must have a workbook where you first have changed something in your palette and then changed it back to default colours before you save it.

The problem with custom palettes is this:
Files with standard pallette does not contain palette information. They will display default colours as long as you only work with files containing no palette information.
If you open one file that contains a custom palette this will change the display colours of all other workbook you open until you restart Excel. After restart you can reload your workbooks and they will display in the correct standard colours.

This information is not something I have seen documentation about, it is only my personal experience with custom colour palettes. Anybody please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I have made you a empty wookrbook that should contain a pallette with standard colours. This you can copy palette from, if you find the problem woorkbook. Remember to save it after you have corrected it.

    Open my woorkbook
    Open your problem woorkbook
In Tools -> options -> colour , copy colours from my workbook to your woorkbook.
    Save your woorkbook.

Hope this will solve your problem, and that you remember to don't use custom colours in your workbook if you don't have to The 40 standard colours should be enough for most cases.
