file size doubling

I have which was 2kb, overnight its 7kb. what could be causing this ? what hints and tips are available to keeping the file size small. ?

Superfluous rows and columns can do this. I had a document that was around 7MB (which is big enough anyhow!), it suddenly grew to 45MB - turned out I'd copied formatting down all 65000-odd rows of a couple of worksheets. Undoing this dramatically reduced the file size.
