    sorting legal numbering

    Dear All

I need to sort a column. The entries are in legal number format, that is 1.1.1.1.1.1 So the column has 1.2, then 1.1.1.3 followed by 2.3.1.4 etc etc. Its needs to be sorted so that the order follows 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc.

    Any ideas

    Drew

Just using the normal Data|Sort should work....I tested it and it worked for me.

Did you try it? If so, what goes wrong?

    If you have sub-elements > 9 (e.g., 1.2.10.3), you will need a function that expands them to a common length (e.g, 1.02.10.03).
