converting a percent of the whole to 100%

I have a section of a total that equals 42.9%, within the 42.9% I want to equally distribute space.

There are 42 sections in this 42.9% space, one category represents 5.3% of the sales in the 100% space, I am trying to create a formula which will tell me how many of the 42 sections equal 5.3% of the 100%. I cannot remember how to convert the 42.9% into 100% which I am assuming is the task to get the formula, any help here? Thanks.

    I hope I understand this
    Start at 100%

But you have 42.9%. And that is divided into 42 equal(?) sections.

    So each section is 42.9% / 42 = 1.0214 % of the original 100%

And you want to know how many sections it takes to make up 5.3% of the original whole?

    5.3 / 1.0214 = 5.188.
So it takes roughly 5 1/5 sections to match 5.3% of the original 100%

Or did I misinterpret the problem completely?
