Summing a Column based on reading matching items in another column

We have received roughly a years worth of water meter read data set up by customer account which shows reads for each month, although there aren't always 12 entries for each account. The rows show (among other things) account (combination of text and numbers) and usage (number). I would like to be able to sum the usage for each account for the given number of periods, so I was hoping a formula can be set up which can check for the account (these items are in one column) and sums all the usage (another column) for that account. Example of data (not showing 12 iterations) is:

    Account usage
    ADA1-00 3
    ADA1-00 6
    ADA1-00 4
    BDB7-55 18
    BDB7-55 12

    Any help

You could use a pivot table.

    See here for some guidance:

Where there is a will there are many ways.
