    Simple IF command for novice!

    Hi all,

    I'm working on a timesheet plan in Excel. I want to put in a formula so that the worksheet can calculate the amount of planned, completed and overdue tasks on the sheet e.g. if a "P" is entered into 4 particular activity cells then the calculator at the bottow will count the 4 P's and show the number 4.

    Any help would be fantastic!

    Cheers

    Hi Kev,

    Okay, a little more information might be helpful.

    I'll go with some assumptions;
    your four catagories are in a single column so they might contain from 0 to 4 "P"s in the 4 cells. In the next row, you want the sum of the "P's". Yes?

    Assuming data in Column B rows 2 through 5. In the counting cell, put
    =COUNTIF(B2:B5,"P")
    Let us know if this is what you wanted?
