index - match formula

i'm trying to get a return but only if certain criteria match. i know its the index/match formula but can't remember how.
So!.

the result will go in boat.xls cell d1. the result is from car.xls

in car.xls if cell in colum A is the same as cell a1 in boat.xls
and cell in car.xls colum B is the same as cell B1 in boat.xls
and cell in car.xls colum C is the same as cell C1 in boat.xls
then show the corresponding cell from car.xls colum D in cell D1 in boat.xls

The way you described it, it sounds like you're looking for a simple IF statement rather than an INDEX statement. Does this formula (in D1 of BOAT) do the trick?
