    Saving a certain sheet layout

I am new to working with excel (I know enough to mess things up) and had a question for those in the know. I work with Steel Cad software which generates reports and saves them in excel format. The problem is, all the info that is sent to excel is placed in the cells, but all the cells need to be resized and placed correctly on the sheet. When I open the excel sheet, all the column widths are default widths and all are equal. I then need to go and stretch out all the various columns to match the data shown in them.

Is there some way I can save a certain "layout" as I would call it and apply it future reports that my cad software generates at the click of a mouse. This would save me time having to edit all sheets in the same manner for every report I create.

What I usually do is first, change the "margins" to narrow, then change the "view" to page layout, and then resize all my columns as needed.

    Can this be automated?????

    Thanks

    Im using excel 2007

    Hi,

A quick way to get the cells to resize is to select the whole sheet, either Ctrl+A or click the small square adjacent to column A and Row 1, then double-click on one of the column borders - say between A and B in the column header row

So then I still have to manually edit the margins and make any other formating changes (ie increase title font size). I would have thought there was a way to save a certain sheets layout (margins, cell spacing etc) and formating of individual cells, and then modify a different sheet to match those properties.

Maybe I was a bit optimistic???

I have attached my before and after editing sheets, what would be the most efficient way to make these modifications.

    Thanks a ton

    Hi,

Once you have formatted your sheet to your liking, select the whole sheet and press delete to clear any text, you are then left with a formatted sheet that you can save as a template. Then next time you have an unedited sheet, just copy the content, paste special > Values into your pre-formatted sheet.
