Pull-down list for column value

I have a column with pre-defined values. For example, if the column is 'Database' and has values 'Oracle' or 'Sybase' or 'SQL Server'. One of the three values should be filled in by the user. How can I setup a pull-down list from which only one value is selected? Where do I define all the values?

make a list in a spare column of all allowable words, and call that list MYLIST

go to the cell where the answer is required then data, validation, choose list from the options you are offered and enter =MYLIST in the box and ok out...
