I know that sounds stupid but I'm new to excel and I have Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac and I just want to enter in data but not have it do any formulas. For example I just want it to show '+ 4,000' without that turning into a formula, but each time I do that it tries to add other cells and when I tab off it only shows '4,000' when I need to show it '+ 4,000'.

Put a single quote at the start of the cell entry.
