When deleting cell contents, they come right back?

Hi. I have one spreadsheet that is not allowing me to delete cell values easily.
When I click into a cell and backspace through the contents, it removes them as expected, but once I have hit 'backspace' enough to remove the final character, it refreshes the cell and puts the original contents back. Almost as if a macro is running in the background? Any ideas as to what is causing this?
    Thanks

OK, I've got to ask. Is there a macro running in the background? 'Cos that seems like the only explanation for this happening. Does this happen on other workbooks (other worksheets...)?

Fair question, but no, I've disabled macros upon opening sheet.
I think it may be related to several vlookup functions I'm using, which may be constantly calculating any time a change is made on the sheet? But it doesn't matter what cell I'm editing, even if it has nothing to do with the vlookup function the original contents come right back, if I didn't finish editing before the sheet start calculating again. I'm stumped. Ideas? Thanks

The best suggestion is to zip and upload your sheet in the forum for someone to check out for you...

Specify which cell to look at.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
