    Currency on toolbar

Does anybody know of a way to change the $ on the toolbar to format "currency" rather than "accounting". Accounting is just irritating; with all the dollar signs over to the left and dashes rather than zeros. I do a lot of charts and it would save many clicks to simply have the default on my machine be currency for this icon.

I have read through all the help files I could locate and they give me instructions which involve about 6 clicks, going to the Style menu, clicking modify, etc..., but do not permanently convert the symbol to operate the way I want it to. I have to change it for each new chart.

Any help will be most appreciated!

    Hi Dave,
Modifying the style to currency rather than accounting seems to work as a permanent change on the tool bar for me. Stating the obvious perhaps, but are you clicking the 'OK' button twice to close down the two windows?

Don't forget that the name of the setting is just a piece of text. It might still say 'accounting' in the tool bar if you haven't changed that too, but in reality it will still format in currency.

Possible solution with a new macro.

What version of Excel are you using?
I created a macro that has one line of code,
    Selection.NumberFormat = "$#,##0.00"
Then I created a new button on the tool bar to run this macro.
I have a lot of my own buttons so I save them all in one spreadsheet that opens ever time I open Excel. That way they are always available.
To create a new button, right click on a tool bar, choose "Customize", Then hold the "Ctrl" key and drag the "$" button to the right. This will create a duplicate. Then you can assign your new macro to that button. You can change the look of the button so you know it is yours. You can also change the name of the button so when you hover over it you will see the new name you gave it.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Currency button blues

    Thanks HTH & Reboot,

I think I am using Excel 2003 at work, which is where I use most often.

At home I am without it. I can't seem to find a way to get MSOffice going without spending $500!!!

I think the tip about making my own button is the ticket. I tried every which way to modify the original button and it just wouldn't stick from one chart to the next. You mention that you save your buttons on a spreadsheet, Reboot, and then start it up each time you start up excel. So that indicates that the functionality of the buttons is transient and isn't really imbedded in the program. Microsoft probably doesn't trust it's users with that much control!!!

I've been using excel for over ten years and there is still sooo much to learn about it!!! And no more time to read through the "for Dummies" books!

    Thanks for the help!
