Change the default size of columns in Excel

I need to be able to change the default size of columns in Excel. I am having problems when I am viewing text data I have imported with the date cell. It will only view as #######.

I know I can change it to view the date but this has created a problem with another report I use because the programme I run it into only recognises the origingal format I imported the data into Excel and when I get my results back in my query (not access programme) they come back as ###### in the date field.

Does any one have any clues.

I have sorted this out by the way.

All I had to do was alter the system date on my pc. For some bizarre reason my system short date was set to dd/mm/yyyy therefore anything I imported or exported into excel had a date format as above and it was throwing out my report because it was set to a short date dd/mm/yy.

Hurrah for perserverance (or something like that).
