    Read Only Error

I have an Excel file that is stored on a server and other files link to it. I tried to open it today but recieved the following error: "This file cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding."

It is not the server because another file with the same link set up opens fine. Does anyone know what could cause this or how to get around it? I really need to access the data on this file.

    Thanks for any help.

Is it possible that the properties are set to Read Only?
I would right click on the file in the folder, and go to Properties, then under General tab. Look at the attributes near the bottom and see if the Read-Only is checked. If so, then uncheck it. Then go back into the file.

That was my first thought. I have changed all the attribute setting to get it to work, but no luck. Any other thoughts?

Well, only if you have the permissions to do this.

Would you be able to save a copy of it to your desktop and be able to open it from there?
Failing that, I may have one other option that I can think of that is time consuming. Did this file have formulas and Macros in it?
