    removing unwanted characters

I've been using excel 2008 on a mac, but the end user of the file is going to be on a PC. When the file opens in excel 2007 on the PC there are a lot of unwanted characters that show up, they show up as a box, as though there are spaces behind, but there are not. I have enclosed a screen shot. Any ideas on how to remove these without going through each cell individually?

You could try copying one of those characters and then go to Edit|Replace...

paste the character in the Find What field and leave the other field blank...

    Click Replace All.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

yeah I already tried that. Its almost as if there are characters that excel doesn't understand. In the formula bar it shows up as a small square with tiny question marks inside.

if you enter a formula like: =CODE(RIGHT(A1)) where A1 is a cell containing a string with those special chars... what do you get back?

the code just stays there, it doesn't do anything. if I type =CODE(RIGHT(A1)), it doesn't change, i still see =CODE(RIGHT(A1)) in the cell.
