Identifying specific text strings in a range

I have a formula which counts the number of times that a text string appears in a range. It counts the cell if it appears anywhere in the string (not just exact matches).

    =COUNTIF($F$7:$F$30002,"*" & F1 & "*")

F7 to F30000 is the range of text strings, and F1 contains the text that I wish to count.

Is there anyway I can get the counted cells to appear highlighted, I can use conditional formatting to change the cell colour if the value matches F1, however, I can only get this to work if it is an exact match.

Can I get conditional formatting to work using my formula ?

    Any help would be appreciated

Select range F7:F30002 and invoke CF dialogue

Choose Formula Is from 1st drop down and enter formula: =SEARCH($F$1,$F7)

Click Format to choose your background.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
