    Pasted number format wrong

Hello guys, this is a very basic question.

I pasted some numbers of the format
    $15,23
and want to do stuff with the values. However I constantly get an error message. I am using Office 2007 in case it matters.

I can format the cells to currency or just number, but it won't do any of the calcs. I suspect it is because the normal format would be
    $15.23
using a point instead of a comma.

    thanks for helping out

Highlight the cells with this format, Ctrl+H, put a comma in the first box, a period in the second, and click Replace All.

    You are right

The comma makes the figure text. You can do a search for , and replace with . and this should fix your problem. If not you may have to format the cells as currency after the replace, but I am using 2007 and just the replace fixed the problem.
Yes it will. we just have to figure out how...
