    Search and replace

i need some help. Im currently working on creating a new spreadsheet and merging everything from the old sheets to the new one so we can start using filters. But the filters wont recognize the date format on my old spreadsheets (00.00.0000). someone at work said that it’s impossible and that I would need to change the date format one by one (to 00/00/0000) before the filter can work on the new one. This is so long and stressing.

So basically I need to put these dates in ascending order, but when I click the filters only the first part of the date ascends and not the entire date. can someone help me please? if your confused but think you can help me please let me know. I’ll elaborate further.

    31.08.1971
    01.12.1964
    14.01.1971
    24.02.1973
    15.02.1959
    04.04.1976
    27.01.1972
    23.11.1973
    05.03.1972
    14.12.1977

but when i enter the '/' the full date ascends.

i would so appreciate someones help

    kindest regards

Select all the cells you want to change

Either CTL+F or Edit > Find

in Find what enter the period
In Replace with enter the slash
