    How do I solve for a missing variable?

    Hi all,

    I am trying to figure out how to solve for a missing variable with Excel. For example:

    I have a loan payment of A, a loan term of B, an interest rate of C. How do I solve for getting the loan balance of D?

    THANKS in advance,
    Jonathan

    Hi, use the excel function Ipmt(Rate,Per,Nper,Pv,fv)/(InterestRate/12).Where Rate= InterestRate/12
    Per = Number of payments made
    Nper= Total number of payments
    Pv= - Amount of loan ( this entered as a minus amount)
    fv= leave empty
    Divide the answer by(Interest rate/12)
    this should leave the amount owing
    Hope this helps Howard
