copy data from drop down menu?

Hi all,

I have a protected spreadsheet supplied by someone else, and really need to organize/compile the data in it, but cannot add formulas, rows, etc. due to the protection. My client is not able to release the password to the sheets.

1) Right now, I am able to copy values out of the spreadsheets as simply values, however one column of the protected sheets have a drop down menu in each column. I am not able to copy the value out of the drop down menu into a new sheet. Does anyone know a way to quickly grab this value?

OR

2) Is there another format (.txt, .csv, etc.) or some way to save the sheet such that will strip the protection off, and save the data in a way that I could apply formulas and move things around?

Is your client unwilling to give you the password(s) or does the client not know what the password(s) is or are?

So, it's not actually my client- in this case, it's the state authority I am submitting forms to. Thus they are extra persnickity about unlocking spreadsheets. If you know a way to crack the password protection, I am all ears, the state has not been super helpful (no surprise there).
