Managing Race Times: Trouble with Auto-Formatting and Averaging

    Hello world.

I am trying to make a spreadsheet with different race times for runners on a cross country team. I typed the numbers in but then Excel kept changing it. The numbers are like 26:32 for mm:ss. However, if I try to get it to format it in this way, it thinks 26 is the hour and 32 is the minutes when I enter it. I would like to be able to keep these times to where I can average them and things of that nature.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Quick suggestion - type 0:26:32 will display as 26:32
