    Moving Time Elements Into Formula

In the attached file, Example1, I show a segment of a report that require the comparison to downtime of equipment with the available run time of that equipment, expressed as a percent. I have three piece of equipment (cell B1), with a total of 6 incidents of outage (cell B3), for a total time out of service of 5 hrs 4 mins (cell A2). The total possible operating time for this equipment is 7,560 minutes (cell E3). I can input the total time out of service (cell A2) manually into the formula =1-((5*60)+4)/(B1*E3) (cell D2), but I would like those numbers from A2 to populate in D2 automatically, since I use the Sum command to add A2 from data sheets. Can someone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Time, Time, Time...

To get the answer that you have in D2 you can use this formula:

    =(E3*B1-A2*24*60)/(E3*B1)

Note that times are stored in Excel as fractions of a 24-hour day, hence the need to multiply by 24 as well as 60 to convert into minutes.

    Hope this helps.
