    Creating a series

I want to create unique respondent id's for each student in each class but also be able to link that id back to the course.

I start with a list below

    Course FacultyStudent ID
    A-ACCT 2322 01 [INDENT]faculty[INDENT]
    A-ACCT 2322 01 student1
    A-ACCT 2322 01 student2
    A-ACCT 2301 01 faculty
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student1
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student2
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student3
    A-ACCT 2322 01 student1
    A-ACCT 2322 01 student2
    A-ACCT 2301 01 faculty
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student1
    and so on....

What I want to end up with is:

    Course Faculty/Student ID Respondent id
    A-ACCT 2322 01 faculty 10
    A-ACCT 2322 01 student1 101
    A-ACCT 2322 01 student2 102
    A-ACCT 2301 01 faculty 11
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student1 111
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student2 112
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student3 113
    A-ACCT 2322 01 faculty 12
    A-ACCT 2322 01 student1 121
    A-ACCT 2301 01 faculty 13
    A-ACCT 2301 01 student1 131
    and so on....

I've been doing this by using the series fill but I have to do it "by hand" for each course...and there are a lot of courses.

Is there a function that can create the kind of series above?

    Any help is appreciated.

If I've understood the data pattern correctly, this macro should do what you need.

    It Worked

I don't quite understand all of the commands, but it worked like a charm!

I will make an effort to fully understand the commands.

    Thank you sooo much!
