    Autofilter....Colander effect..

Hello - I would be delighted if someone could help me with the question below.

I am working with an excel file of 46634 rows, with no blank rows or gaps in the data.

When I use autofilter to try to display certain entries, some of the entries are not available for selection in the autofilter drop-down menu. I can find them in the file by using Ctrl + F, and I can display them using the 'Custom' option in the autofilter dropdown menu, but can anyone tell me why the entries are not showing up themselves in the autofilter dropdown menu??

    Thanks!

    Good afternoon Sorcha

    ...and welcome to the forum!!

Unfortunately autofilter has an annopying limitation that has just tripped you up : it only lists the first 1,000 entries in a list.

Debra Dalgleish has a workaround here, but to be honest it's not that great but the only true solution to this situation would be to get hold of Excel 12 which, I believe, has no such limitation...

Switch off autofilter and select the entire range of data you are working on. Now reapply the autofilter. I suspect that this will cure your problem.

    Hello DominicB, VBA and Martin

Thank you all for your responses & for the link to the workarounds. I tried Martin's suggestion and unfortunately it didn't work, but the main thing is that I now know why this was happening!

    Thanks again
