    Compare text in two columns

In both columns (A & B), there are a series of "Yes" and "No". Where they match I don't want anything to populate in column C, but where they don't I want an "X" to populate to identify where the disconnects are.

    how about simply,

    =IF(A1<>B1,"X","")
Where there is a will there are many ways.

I tried both of those previously but I keep getting #NAME? as the result. Any suggestions?

Make sure the "X" is in quotes.
