    Linking problem

I have linked the results obtained from one workbook (X) to another workbook (Y). Incorrect results are displayed in Y and when I open workbook X, the correct results are displayed immediately. Can someone please let me know how to rectify this problem? Thank you.

    Hi

How have you linked the 2 workbooks? If it is a normal link, or a function that works on closed workbooks (VLOOKUP), then updating the links when the child workbook is opened should solve the problem.

However, if you have used something like INDIRECT, then you will have to rethink how you get your data as INDIRECT does not work on a closed workbook.

Thanks, rylo. It is a direct link using '=' sign. Why does this problem arise in the first place? Will the repeat again and again? Thanks a lot.

    Hi

On the face of it, if the data was correct when it was saved, then I can't see why it would be a problem. Have to look at the files and see if I could find anything.

However, does updating the links on opening solve the problem?
