unable to leave cells blank if reference cell is blank

I’m having trouble with conditional formatting. If I leave column A empty I want column D to not auto fill. Right now it fills yellow based off the last rule I created in conditional formatting. I can’t seem to find the right formula to leave it blank. Thanks in advance for the help.

You may change the condition =A3=0 to =A3="" then move it up to top.

hmm...that seems to work up to row 8 then even though rows 8 & 9 have data in them they now show blank.

    Look the file.
Perhaps You change =A3="" but Apply for D1:D238 instead of D3:D238
