    Text wrapping incorrectly

    Hi

I have a problem with Excel wrapping text, when the text does not fill the cell.

I have a column of width 90 and text that may wrap to 2 or 3 lines, autofit is switched on and the majority is okay. However if a line, depending upon letter width is around 84/86 characters a blank line is wrapped.

I have found that others have had this problem but I cannot find an answer to it.

    Any comments would be welcomed.

    Regards

    Jeff

have you checked if there is multiple spaces at the end of the text that is being wrapped?

    Text wrap problem

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes I have checked all the affected lines and there are no trailing spaces.

It is the same whether using VBA or working directly in a cell. I have tried it on Excel 2000, XP and 2007 and it is the same in each. I also saw that someone had the same problem in 2003.

The attached file illustrates the problem but I cannot work out why it happens.

Microsoft lists a bug that causes a single letter to wrap but nothing with a blank line.

It's probably correct for the line as printed. What you see on-screen depends on the relationship of text width to printer resolution.

    Text wrap incorrect

    Hi

I have tried a number of combinations with different screen resolutions and no matter how it displays on screen (at lower resolutions text wraps correctly, at higher displays more space) the printed version shows a blank line.

When Microsoft advised an error in wrapping they said that when editing the borders are slightly bigger and when enter is pressed the borders contract and a character extra is wrapped if the cell is nearly full of text.

In reality there can be an extra two or three characters entered and show a blank line before text wraps in reality.

Microsoft's answer is to expand or contract the column, unfortunately what tends to happen with a lot of data in one column is that as one is corrected another shows the error.

Thanks anyway, I will keep experimenting to see if I can work around it.

    Regards

    Jeff
