Forecast the Completion Date and Time

    Hey,

I’m new to the site. I would consider myself an intermediate/advanced excel user. I have been researching and trying to figure this out for a few days now. Some help on the issues would be huge.

This is what I would like to accomplish. I have a set of tasks that are to run in succession. Each task has a calculated run time.

    Ex: Task 1 = 19hrs
    Task 2 = 5hrs
    Task 3 = 30hrs

I would like excel to forecast the date and time the task will be completed, but only using “working hours”. Working hours being 8am-8pm. If I set the start time for Task 1 is July24th 8:00:00 AM . Excel will produce a completion time of July 25th 3:00:00 PM. See below for a visual.

    Start Time: July 24, 2008 8:00:00 AM
    Task 1 = 19hrs July 25, 2008 3:00:00 PM

Note: I do not have an end date and I want to do this on a larger scale. About 75-100 tasks.

Formatting the dates into serial numbers with decimals has allowed me to add hours without a problem. My big issues is getting Excel to only use working hours.

Any suggestions, ideas, or links would be helpful.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Take a look here: http://www.cpearson.com/excel/DateTimeWS.htm

    Might be of use.

I have already tired using both formulas before posting this. I have gotten it to work, but it gave me the amount of time to complete, not the actual date. It displays "1 day 7 hours", where I am looking for the exact date and time. Also, you cannot use the product of the formula in other calculations without reenter and altering the formula.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.
