    Highlight cell when overriding formula???

    Hi
I have a cell with a formula that returns a value, when the user decides this value is no good then he/she will override the formula and input another value.
I need to highlight the cell when the user decides to override the formula with a value. (possibly using conditional formatting)

    e.g.
A1 includes a formula that returns 500. (with white background)
User decides to input 400 into A1.
Cell A1 should highlight background as blue to indicate that the formula no longer exists.

    thanks for any help

    Hi,

There is a Change Tracking tool that you could use to achieve this. Googling or using Help will show you how to do this.

Using the 'change tracking' method does not give want i really need.

If a cell has a formula (if statement) that outputs a numeric result (e.g. 500), the cell stays white. If the cell is overriden by inputting any number or text then the cell will turn blue. However if a number of the same expected result (500) is inserted into the cell (not the formula) then the cell will stay blue as the formula does not exist. And finally if the formula is re-inserted into the cell the cell will return to white.

    Any takers.

    thanks.

Not really sure what the FormText function does, I have followed the instruction and do not see anything happen.

Does anyone know of a way to view formulas for specific cells only, then I can use this function to highlight if a cell formula has changed. I have tried to link my sheet to another worksheet but when viewing the formula all i see is the link reference rather than the formula used in the original sheet.

Any help is again appreciated, thanks.

OldChippy's link is what you want. The only difference is that in the conditional formatting you will want to put =NOT(CELLHASFORMULA)
