Enable/Disable Macros when no Macros are Present?

Hi there. I'm new to this board, but having checked out some some of the other threads, I can see there is a wealth of information being passed around, and I was hoping that someone here would take pity on me and help me out...

I have a user that keeps a maintenance log in an Excel worksheet and sends an updated copy once a week to a board member. Two weeks ago, the board member started complaining that he was prompted to enable/disable macros on opening and became worried when my user stated that no macros were used in the book. He is now concerned that we have sent him a virus.

I know the file is clean because I've scanned it, and when I look at the file in VB, there are no modules or classes present just the Sheets 1-3 and the ThisWorkbook file. None of these objects have any code in them. My user does have some macros in PERSONAL.XLS but they are not used in the workbook in question.

No one else gets the prompt for enabling/disabling macros. Even if I set my security to prompt for any macros, I get no message. I'm convinced that there must be some setting in his Excel that is causing this individual to get this message. Is there anything else other than a macro that would cause this?

Thanks in advance for anyone that can provide some insight...it's greatly appreciated...

    Welcome to the forum.

Please get off to a good start by reading the Forum Rules about thread titles, and then editing yours to be descriptive of your problem.

    Thanks.

I do apologize for that...I have changed it to something that is hopefully a little more descriptive now.

Thanks, that is a stellar title -- concise and descriptive.

Can you post a sanitized version of the workbook that shows the problem? (You should be able to delete all of the contents.)

I think there is no personal information so I uploaded the file as is - I only changed the filename so as to remove the user's identity. Is this ok?

Exactly! That is what is so frustrating...no one gets the macro warning except for a single individual. I would not worry so much but this individual is a major client, and, of course, we wish to make them happy.

Is there anything else that can trigger that warning? Is it possible that there is some corruption in his Excel that would cause this?

I wish I had another suggestion, Slothrop, but I don't, sorry.

    I did find this: http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqMac.html#NoMacros

And this: http://www.j-walk.com/SS/excel/usertips/tip076.htm (you might delete the Option explicit that appears in two of the Sheet modules)

And this: http://exceltips.vitalnews.com/Pages...om_Macros.html (nothing new here)

Post back and let us know what sorted it.

I appreciate your time in looking at this for me.
Unfortunately, I did come across those links already before I had posted here.

When I open VB there are no modules and there is no code listed on any of the sheets. As much as want to actually find what the problem is, I think I will just try to use the brute-force method of copying the text only from the original worksheet and pasting it into a new workbook and see if that fixes the problem.

I will post back if this corrects the issue.

    Thanks again.

I had the same issue with one of my excel sheets. It was asking me whether I wanted to enable/disable a macro when there wasn't a macro present. Now, there had been a macro previously, but it had long since been deleted. The only option that worked for me is to create a new spreadsheet and copy each page over separately to the new spreadsheet.
