    Strange formula: =IDX1

I make a monthly report contaning data from a spreadsheet generated by some database program. To pick only the important info and to avoid having to change the rather peculiar formatting decided by the database guys I just copy the contents and paste it directly into an area in my own spreadsheet where below this area I have some cells with my own format and a simple formula saying eg. "=B25" to give it the same content as the needed info.

Cell A62 used to contain the formula "=A41" because A41 is a headline that I need. But now the content of A62 has suddenly changed to "=IDX1". It still picks up the content of A41, but what is this ID-expression and where did it come from?

    If I change to =IDX2 it says #REF! whereas a change to =IDY1 results in a #NAME!
    Cell X1 is empty.
The database generated spreadsheet has some merged cells that I unmerge before the copy/paste.

    Hi NSV

If you are using xl2007, =IDX1 is a valid cell reference, but presuming you are not, then I suggest you look to see if you have any defined names in the workbook (via Insert>Names>Define). It will probably be listed in there. It is possible for names to be hidden, so post back if this doesn't resolve your issue.

    Hi Richard

Thanks for the tip. I haven't thought of names, but there are actually two of them in the sheet and one is my cell and is called IDX1, so this is the answer.

I did not make the names so they must have been pasted from the data base generated spreadsheet. It was the letters "ID" that made me wonder if it could be some unknown Excel-formula.
