Excel deleting VBA modules and ActiveX controls

This started happening the other day

When I try to open a worksheet that has any sort of macros I get the "error opening file" popup with the request to send the error to Microsoft.

When I check the box to "recover and save file" and proceed I am told that repairs were necessary to save the file

The repairs stated are " LOST VBA MODULES" and "LOST ACTIVEX CONTROLS"

    Why is this happening????????

I have not changed anything to my knowledge.

Changine the macro security settings to low has no effect either

    Suggestions please

    thanks in advance

    Jim

It sounds like your workbook is corrupted in some way. Do you have any code in he WorkBook_Open event or an auto-open macro?
    Hope that helps.

I have now copied files to my pc from an external hd (which has been disconnected from my pc since before this started happening) and the same thing happens to them as well.

It is affecting every excel file that has macros (vba modules)

All files without macros open normally

I have a laptop running the same office xp installation.

I will copy files from both my pc and external hd to it and see what happens.

Yes, I have not tried the files on another computer yet.

The screwy thing is I have opened a file today and it did not happen the first time I opened it but it did the second time

Have you tried running Repair from the Office installation CD?
