Extending column width past 255 characters

    Hello.

I am working on a spreadsheet. One of my colums contains alot of info (up to 2600 characters per line). Excel says max width is 255 characters per column but it shows all the data when I click on each cell in this column, however when I convert my spreadsheet to a csv this column is cutting off at 255. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?? Thanks a bunch, this site has been tremendously helpfull for this 'new excel user'

There is no good way of "fixing" this. I would recommend another program (access?) for dealing with this quantity of text.

Sorry, I know that's not really what you want!

Can you explain in more detail what you are doing when the message appears.
How are you converting to csv?

I just populated a range of cells with 2710 characters, saved as csv no problem.
File when reloaded contains all 2710 characters in each cell. Using xl2003.
    Cheers

shieldsty, rather than a visitor's message post your questions in your thread.

I am saving my excel files to csv using a program I purchased called CSV file creator. I think this is where the problem is this program only converts columns to a 255 character max. What is the easiest way to convert an excell to a csv (just as a csv in notebook)? When I save the exvcel file as a CSV nothing really happens. When I copy and paste it to notebook it is not delimeted. Any help would be much appreciated... as you can tell I am using excel for the first time to upload inventory and decriptions to my website and am having trouble with the basic functions.
Just do a save as in excel, picking the csv file option.

Rather than copy+paste from excel to notepad, which will not contain any csv formatting. Just open the csv file from notepad.
