I have a huge file (8000+ rows) and am having trouble with some of the columns in it displaying numbers as text. This is not a formatting problem, but instead the number is actually stored as text. I know it is possible to insert a row and 'paste special' as values but this takes a long time. Is there any quick way to change the way the number is stored in the cells permanetly.

Try this
Select a column of "text numbers"
Data > Text to columns > Finish
Format the cells as General or any numeric format you prefer.
Copy an empty cell, then select the cells with numbers stored as text, and do Edit > Paste Special, Values, Add

Select the first number stored in text, then select down to the last number
See the "!" symbol? Click convert to number
