    Have you tried

opening the file on another PC
opening with macro's disable (if you have macro's)

PS. Best to always save a backup for this very reason

You can also search google for file recovery services but suspect they will charge.

What happens if you right click the icon and create a copy

If it's any consolation, you will recreate it in 1/4 the time, and it will be much better implemented.

    hi guys

would like to say that i attached it to my works email address and went to work to check it

downloaded it from email and its fine

i then resent it back to my home address saved as another name

    but again it wont open

    any ideas?

i need to be able to do this at home rather than work as its time consuming and obviously not to be done during work time

    regards

i tried removing excel then reinstalling but same old thing....

    thanks guys

At least it's not totally lost...

I'm sure most of the people on this forum have had that "hours and hours and hours down the drain" feeling and nobody's going to be flippant about it!

I wonder if there's something quirky in your personal xls which affects this file in particular. Try unhiding your personal xls (window->unhide) then closing it. Then open your spreadsheet. May help(?)

If you have general macros which are not stored in that workbook, they will be stored in "personal.xls". To see if you have one, after you open Excel, Windows>Unhide and see if it shows up.

    hi,

This may have come up in the "optimise speed" weblink but...
Does the file have a lot of calculations (eg vlookups or sumproducts) in it?

If so, try opening the file with manual calculation under Tools - Options - Calculation. I'm not sure if this will help because the setting may be stored within the workbook, if it doesn't help you may need to run a command prompt forcing excel to open the file with manual calc (try googling:

& change the settings in VBE to :"break on all errors" ...
