Excel cannot find path

Hi,

We are running on a Novell Network. Some of our users are unable to open a "read only" copy of an excel file when another user has it open. They instead receive a message stating that Excel is unable to find the path to the file.

This does NOT happen to every user - only a few "lucky" selected users.

Any Ideas????

I'm not familiar with Novell networks...but, here are some thoughts....

If the path to the file is using a mapped drive...
K:\myfile.xls
versus a Universal Naming Convention (UNC)
\\myserver\myfolder\myfile.xls
perhaps the "lucky" users don't have the
same drive letter mapped to the same location as the other users.

If that's the case, either map the same drive letter for all users
or use the UNC version (\\myserver\myfolder\myfile.xls)

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your reply but that is definetly not the problem. It only happens when another user has a file open and the second user tries to open the file and instead of receiving the "read only" notification they receive the "Excel is unable to find the path" error message.
If a user tries to open the file without anyone else having it open it opens without a hitch.
