    Proof of Calculation

When I switch from automatic calculation to manual calculation, I'm accustomed to seeing the word ‘calculate’ in the lower left grey area of Excel after I make any changes to any cell. However, I’m also accustomed to seeing that word disappear after I press the F9 key and the workbook calculates.

I’m concerned because the word ‘calculate’ does not disappear even immediately after pressing the F9 key and watching Excel count up as it “calculates cells” I’m afraid not every cell is calculating. Might the size of the file cause this? My file is around 38MB. Also, none of the cells are formatted as text, they are all a custom format (so that zeros are returned as “-“).

Any help (or just comforting words) would be appreciated.

    Hello jxw100,

    Welcome to the Forum!

You workbook is large. The types of calculations and number of formulas are going to effect the amount time to complete all the calculations. I am not surprised that the status bar doesn't clear right away. Unless the message stays there permanently, I would worry.

    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

Thanks for the comforting words, however, the status bar doesn't ever clear. If it would clear once in a while, I wouldn't worry, but since I've noticed the problem it's not gone away. I've tried alt-ctrl-F9 to rebuild the calculation tree, but that doesn't clear the status bar either. Any thoughts?
