    Easy question re sorting

    Hopefully this is an easy question. I have 4 columns - names in 1, companies in 2, products in 3 and maturity dates in 4. Is there a way to sort them by the maturity dates and have it keep the correct dates with the names as they are listed? When I sort by date it only moves the dates and when I highlight everything it sorts by name. I don't see a way to change the sort button to sort by number as I can in Word.

    Hi,
    if you use Data - Sort, you can set by which column to sort and whether in descending or ascending order. You can either select all your data and go Data - Sort on the Menu or click anywhere in the list, if there are no gaps and go Data - Sort.

    Make sure your data is in consecutive rows and columns, i.e. no blank rows and no empty columns in your data table, otherwise Excel will not recognise it as belonging together.

    This one seems easy. Here your table:
    Names Company Products Dates
    Name1 Comp1 Prod1 10/10/2008
    Name3 Comp3 Prod3 13/10/2008
    Name4 Comp4 Prod4 18/10/2008
    Name2 Comp2 Prod2 20/10/2008
    Name5 Comp5 Prod5 24/10/2008

    Place the cursor in the table
    Date -> Sort
    A2:D6 is selected (make sure Header Row is enabled)
    Select Dates
    Press OK
    Looking for great solutions but hate waiting?
