I have been setting up a new workbook which contains several worksheets. The first sheet is an 'overview' sheet with all work listed in it and in the first column are codes for various products. There are 5 categories of codes (which are made up of 4 text characters and then 3 numbers) and I have set up the next 5 worksheets each to contain data on only one category of codes. Therefore I am looking for a formula or function that will recognise the first four characters (text) of the code in the overview sheet and automatically decide which subsequent worksheet it needs to be listed in and to copy that code into that worksheet.

Sorry, does this make sense? I have gone round and round in circles on the microsoft website, trying to find a way to do this and I must be 'wording' my search incorrectly as nothing comes close.

Any help you can give would be very much appreciated.
