    Conditional Formatting

Good afternoon, I’m updating a document I created a few years ago and am trying to utilize the conditional formatting function. I have two adjacent cells, say A1 and A2, where A1 is a primary data field and A2 is a secondary filed. I have an accounting code entered in the first cell (A1) and want a PO number entered in the second cell (A2). Is it possible to have the second cell (A2) turn light red with the first cell (A1) has text and the second is empty? BTW, I am using the new version of excel so I am still trying to get use to the execution of some of these functions.

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Rhyan,

Typically you would want to post your own post instead of tagging onto a previous post. One...it will be easier for people to see your needs and thus respond quicker. I just happened along this thread and saw your question.

To answer your question...yes. click on a2 then on your toolbar FORMAT > CONDITIONAL FORMATTING. =if(a2="",if(a1="",false,true),FALSE))

This will check to see if A2 is blank, if its not, it doesn't do anything...if it is, then it will check to see if A1 is blank - which if it is, then you have any empty row and nothing should be down, otherwise it will then go ahead with your formatting you select.
